Sports Medicine Physician

To support and enhance the mission of Children’s by providing leadership for the assigned clinical area of responsibility to ensure the provision of high quality patient care in and effective and efficient manner.


  • Graduate of an accredited, four-year medical school
  • Fellowship trained in sports medicine
  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff


  • Board certified Pediatrics or Family Practice: Fellowship trained in sports medicine
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia
  • Current DEA registration
  • BLS certification required


  • Minimum of 1 year experience in clinical specialty

  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff


  1. Provide thorough clinical history and physical examinations on all injuries in the clinical setting and on the field/sidelines.
  2. Complete necessary documentation following all patient visits and provide thorough communication and education to the patient and family related to the diagnosis and plan of care including follow up recommendations.
  3. Order appropriate diagnostic tests and other services including but not limited to specialist consults, diagnostic imaging, medications, PT, OT, neuropsychology and nutrition.
  4. Provides patient care within the respective clinical areas which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and Children's policy and procedures.
  5. Provides an authenticated report of all physician services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner. Provides necessary documentation for appropriate reimbursement.
  6. Work collaboratively with the medical and hospital leadership to promote the best possible sports medicine services for Children’s patients.
  7. Perform sports pre-participation physicals, provide school sports team or sports club team coverage and provide medical oversight for Sports Medicine Athletic Trainers. Participate in the Sports Medicine Concussion Program.
  8. Meet with Sports Medicine Leadership and Strategy team including Service Line administrator and Director of Orthopedics at least quarterly to review goals, progress and discuss future direction of the program.
  9. Develop and implement plan for ATC coverage throughout assigned markets and communicate with their contracted schools, gyms, pools and other club sports.
  10. Participate in development and evaluation of policies, procedures, guidelines and algorithms to support operations.
  11. Participate in community and physician outreach activities, participate with media relations regarding sports medicine program and participate in development of patient education sheets.
  12. Participate in educational programs for Sports Medicine staff, residents, fellows and ATC’s and provide community based education, i.e. coaches’ workshops, student train workshops, athletic director workshops. Participate in development of a sports medicine fellowship program. Participate in regional/national sports medicine conference as requested and required for licensure and certifications. Participates in activities that enhance professional development.
  13. Identify, incorporate and participate in sports medicine Quality Improvement, clinical outcomes and research projects.


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
