Vice President, Government Relations

JOB SUMMARY

The Vice President, Government Relations provides leadership and direction for the Government Relations office. They coordinate all legislative, regulatory, and lobbying activities for Children’s. The Vice President, Government Relations works as a liaison with the State and Federal government leaders. This role proactively supports the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment at Children’s.

 

The Vice President, Government Relations reports to the Chief Operating Officer and at times works closely with Children’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer, as well as administrative and clinical leaders. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Directs all legislative, regulatory, and lobbying activities for Children’s.
  2. Works as a liaison with State and Federal government leaders as well as with Georgia Hospital Association.
  3. Serves as liaison with the System Board’s Public Affairs Committee to ensure appropriate issues are monitored at a local, state, and national level.
  4. Assists with the planning and development of all Certificate of Need projects.
  5. Monitors and guides the work of advocates representing the diverse interests of the System in a non-partisan way.
  6. Participates in the development, planning, marketing, implementation and evaluation of new programs and services through the strategic and operational business planning process.
  7. Develops and monitors annual operating budget and goals. 
  8. Ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures within all responsible areas, including all regulatory agency requirements and standards affecting the operations of the facility.
  9. Sets expectations, develops plans, and manages processes to assess, improve, and maintain the integrity of our advocacy process.
  10. Collaborates effectively with Finance and Managed Care teams on issues impacting all forms of reimbursement. 
  11. Represents Children’s in a credible, effective manner among friends to Children’s, affiliates, trustees, and corporations
  12. Demonstrates self-confidence, transparency, sincerity, clarity, and sensitivity in spoken and written communications
  13. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with physicians, leaders, and other key constituents in support of Children’s goals
  14. Supports the CEO and Children’s executives in political initiatives and the development of strategic relationships

EXPERIENCE*

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a legislative and advocating position
  • Skilled in analytical and critical thinking, counseling and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and excellent writing skills.
  •  A solid communicator who is conversant with the goals and strategies of Children’s.
  • Demonstrated effective business acumen and good judgment.
     

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related curriculum.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*

  • Expert knowledge of Medicaid policy.
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State governing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and make connections with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills with experience as organization spokesperson.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with high expectations to produce results.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for conflict resolution. An ability to find “win/win” solutions that benefit multiple constituencies.
  • Expert level problem-solving, strategic planning, and financial analysis ability. Ability to lead and manage a team, with a focus on developing, engaging, and retaining team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Juris Doctor degree is preferred.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system. 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
