JOB SUMMARY

Provides timely and accurate transcription of dictated medical reports for medical staff members and patient care. Actively promotes quality and efficiency and continually seeks work process improvements.

 

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • No professional certifications required
EXPERIENCE*
  • 3 years of experience as a medical transcriptionist in a hospital      
  • Demonstrated word processing experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Associate's degree
  • Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT)
  • Experience in medical transcription in a pediatric setting
  • Experience in Microsoft Word
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*
  • Must type a minimum of 80 words per minute
  • Ability to process on average 467,000 characters per 40-hour workweek with high  accuracy
  • Must maintain positive working relationship with dictating providers, providing feedback and suggestions where appropriate to enhance clinical documentation
  • Personal computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other Windows-based applications
  • Excellent communication, organization, interpersonal, leadership, and teaching skills
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Transcribes dictated reports at a minimum rate of 12,500 characters per hour for medical staff in surgical pathology reports, consultation reports, and notes and letters as required with minimal clerical error.
  2. Meets required turnaround transcription times for consultations (24 hours or less), surgical pathology reports (24 hours or less) and clinic notes/letters (48 hours or less).
  3. Provides administrative support to faculty and staff.
  4. Supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of services provided.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
