JOB SUMMARY

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is growing and hiring a Senior Database Administrator to be a permenant member to the team. The Sr. DBA will provide enterprise-wide, DBA support for production systems and provide DBA services to application development teams, operations, and data warehouse development teams - including database design, database creation, and database production support. This role is responsible for the smooth operation of the databases that use the customer and internal facing application, information delivery, and data warehouse development teams.

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor's Degree in computer science, or equivalent discipline plus 6-8 years of experience, or a Master's Degree in computer science

EXPERIENCE*

  • 5+ years of experience performing database administration functions and supporting databases in a production environment
  • Must have experience supporting both SQL Server and Oracle environments

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*

  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated competency with techniques of data modeling resulting in an Entity Relationship Diagram deliverable
  • Demonstrate well-developed organizational, written communication and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively and productively with teams across organizational lines, including administrative, executive staff and patient care systems users
  • Must be able to function in a dynamic environment subject to impromptu changes in schedules and priorities
  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of data warehousing architectural approaches (including virtual data warehousing)
  • Demonstrates data modeling skills (Normalization, Star Schema, “The Vault”) skills

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Instrumental in researching, evaluating, designing, testing, recommending, and planning implementation of new versions of database and database tools.
  2. Provide DBA support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness.
  3. Provide coaching and guidance to application programmers, analysts and data analysts. Assist with the setup and installation database structures or objects.
  4. Work closely with the application developers, information delivery/data warehouse developers and Operations to ensure reliable database usage.
  5. Participate in design walkthroughs and joint application development sessions.
  6. Create, document and enforce policies, procedures, and standards related to database administration and management.
  7. Provide development and production support to troubleshoot day-to-day database or related application issues.
  8. Monitor database server capacity/performance and make infrastructure and architecture recommendations to management for necessary changes/updates.
  9. Provides Master and Metadata management capabilities.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
