JOB SUMMARY

Respiratory Care Practitioners at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta care for over 300 patients per day in our three hospitals. Respiratory Therapists are key members of multidisciplinary teams at our 575 beds. Therapists can expand their skills as members of the ECMO team, the external Transport team,  as core Isoflurane therapists,  Asthma and Pulmonary Education specialists and more. We strive to provide the cutting edge, evidence-based and value-based care that only Children’s can provide to each of our patients. EDUCATION

  • Associate’s degree from approved respiratory therapy program

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of employment
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) within 1 year of employment

EXPERIENCE*

  • 1 year of experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 year of experience in pediatrics

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*

  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skills Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Mandatory Requirements

  • Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable
  • Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit and system by due date.
  • Completes unit-specific orientation successfully nd provides documentation
  • Maintains minimum of 15 continuing education units per year

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

Technical Skills

  1. While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate population specific guidelines.  This age population includes: N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, ALL - all ages.
  2. Accesses and follows policies.
  3. Uses resources effectively to assist in maintaining budget.
  4. Participates in the PI process.
  5. Participates in maintaining and monitoring the work environment to ensure a continual state of Joint Commission readiness.
  6. Participates in discharge planning.
  7. Reads clinical research and EBP articles posted on the unit and questions care as it relates to EBP.

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
