Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive patient care services.  To proactively support the efforts that will ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's.


  • Graduation from an approved Diploma or Associate’s Degree program with the RRT credentials.* (One time grandfathering of CRT Therapist working on 1/1/07)


  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Current license in the state of Georgia as a Respiratory Care Professional required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of employment
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required


  • 1 year of experience


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous pediatric experience


  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skills Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of date of hire



            Technical Skills

  1. While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate population specific guidelines.  This age population includes:

    N = Neonate (less than 30 days)

    I = Infant (30 days to 1 year)

    EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years)

    LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years)

    A = Adolescent (13-17 years)

    AD = Adult

    ALL - all ages

  2. Accesses and follows policies.
  3. Uses resources effectively to assist in maintaining budget.
  4. Participates in the PI process.
  5. Participates in maintaining and monitoring the work environment to ensure a continual state of Joint Commission readiness.
  6. Participates in discharge planning.
  7. Reads clinical research and EBP articles posted on the unit and questions care as it relates to EBP.

  1. Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable
  2. Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit and system by due date.
  3. Completes unit-specific orientation successfully and provides documentation
  4. Maintains minimum of 15 continuing education units per year
  5. Maintains active RRT credential


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
