JOB SUMMARY

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist at all three of our campuses and outpatient services.

 

Respiratory Care Practitioners at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta care for over 300 patients per day in our three hospitals. Respiratory Therapists are key members of multidisciplinary teams at our 638 beds. Therapists can expand their skills as members of the ECMO team, the external Transport team,  as core Isoflurane therapists,  Asthma and Pulmonary Education specialists and more. We strive to provide the cutting edge, evidence-based and value-based care that only Children’s can provide to each of our patients. Our staff are trained utilizing hands on experience in our specialized pediatric settings as well as providing simulation experiences to enhance learning in a controlled setting. EDUCATION
  • Associate's degree from approved respiratory therapy program
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Current license in the state of Georgia as a Respiratory Care Professional required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of employment
  • Must obtain Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential within 1 year of employment
EXPERIENCE*
  • No minimum experience required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Bachelor's degree
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skills Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

 

Technical Skills

  1. While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate population specific guidelines.  This age population includes: N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, ALL - all ages.
  2. Demonstrates basic assessment skills.
  3. Accurately documents all aspects of the respiratory care process using electronic medical record if applicable to area.  
  4. Demonstrates “5 Rights” of medication administration.
  5. Manages care for basic unit load and progresses to care for increasingly complex patients.
  6. Understands and complies with The Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals.
  7. Accesses and follows policies.

Mandatory Requirements

  1. Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.
  2. Maintains minimum of 15 continuing education units per year.
  3. Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit and system by due date.
  4. Completes unit-specific orientation successfully and provides documentation.
  5. Maintains active NBRC credential as required by job description.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
