JOB SUMMARY

You as a TICU Nurse will be responsible for the following types of patients:

  • Congenital (present at birth) abnormalities of the lungs or airway
  • Conditions resulting from extreme premature birth, including apnea
  • Complications from serious illness, injury or surgery
  • Children from birth to age 21

     

Examples of the types of equipment required by technology-dependent children include:

  • Mechanical ventilators to support or assist breathing
  • BiPAP/CPAP to support or assist breathing
  • Oxygen supplementation, including High Flow Nasal Cannula, to maintain adequate oxygen levels
  • Tracheostomy tubes for a stable airway
  • Cardio-respiratory (apnea) monitors to monitor heart rate and breathing
  • Pulse oximetery to monitor oxygen level in the blood
  • Feeding pump and supplies to maintain nutrition
  • Hoyer lift to assist with repositioning and transfer to wheelchair
  • Infant warmer to maintain body temperature
  • Specialty beds when needed to prevent skin breakdown
EDUCATION
  • Graduation from accredited school of nursing
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) within 1 year of employment as required by department
EXPERIENCE*
  • 1+ years of previous experience with tracheostomy and ventilators

  1. Performs nursing process across the continuum to deliver age and developmentally appropriate patient-family-centered care.

PROFESSIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Completes orientation and initial assessment of competency successfully by determined due date.
  2. Completes mandatory education and annual competency assessment requirements as defined by unit and system by due date.
  3. Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
