Registered Nurse (RN) - Ronald McDonald Care Mobile at Hughes Spalding

Participates as member of interdisciplinary team assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive patient care services for patients served by the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. Provides direct patient care. Provides registration, clerical, and billing support as required, e.g., scheduling, chart creation, and charge entry. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Will travel to local schools to administer care, such as completing physicals, asthma education, pulmonary function tests, telemedicine, appointment phone calls, and registration/scheduling.


  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing 


  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of employment as required by department

  • Experience in an emergency department, ambulatory clinic, and/or general patient care area
  • Knowledge and utilization of patient registration systems, insurance verification systems, and/or Medicaid portals


  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skills Assessment at 80% or higher rating  within 30 days of employment



Clinical Technical Skills

  1. Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
  2. Provides spirometry testing, spacer teaching, and nebulizer treatments.
  3. Identifies and takes steps to resolve areas of non-compliance in relation to regulatory agencies, including Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
  4. Participates and serves as a role model in performance improvement process.

Administrative Skills

  1. Interviews patients and families to obtain complete and accurate demographic and financial information.
    • Ensures that all necessary questionnaires and forms are completed according to pre-determined requirements by government or regulatory agencies.
    • Enters data into system for registration, billing, patient tracking, charge capture, and reconciliation.
    • Handles data entry in a fast, efficient way to minimize patient wait times.
  2. Confirms insurance coverage and obtains authorizations if applicable.
    • Explains regulatory financial requirements to patient or responsible party and collects and posts deposits or deductible amounts as required.
  3. Schedules patient appointments when needed, including referral from faxes, phones, or other instructions and contacts physician offices to resolve discrepancies.
  4. May initiate and perform administrative duties to ensure efficient daily business operations, including participating in Ronald McDonald Care Mobile opening and closing procedures, assisting with maintaining, ordering, and restocking of clerical supplies.

Mandatory Requirements

1. Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.Attends minimum of 15 hours job-related education

2. Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit and system by due date


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
