Psychologist-Multidiciplinary Feeding Program

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Multidisciplinary Feeding Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of only a few programs in the country to offer evidence-based, intensive day treatment for children with Feeding disorders.  The treatment model involves a professional team that includes psychologists, physicians, dietitians, speech-language pathologists (SLP)/occupational therapists (OT), and a social worker. This multidisciplinary team provides evaluation and treatment of children ages 8 months to 21 years, most with complex medical, behavioral, and/or developmental co-morbidities.

 

As part of a strategic initiative to advance the assessment and treatment of pediatric feeding disorders, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a full-time, licensed Psychologist, to become an active member of the multidisciplinary care team.  The Psychologist in the Multidisciplinary Feeding Program will manage a team of skilled professionals in the treatment of complex cases, using behavior analysis or related techniques to design a structure to help children and parents during mealtimes.

 

The Multidisciplinary Feeding Program offers many levels of service to address each child’s unique needs:

 

  • Feeding Clinic – Provides multidisciplinary assessments, allowing the team to make recommendations for further evaluations and interventions.
  • Day Treatment Program – Offers a medical program for children who require intensive daily therapy, including multiple feeding sessions a day, as well as oral-motor therapy, psychosocial family support, and medical and nutritional monitoring.
  • Outpatient Program – Serves children with feeding problems who have graduated from the Day Treatment Program needing ongoing follow-up care or select patients who can be treated by less intensive therapy.
EDUCATION
  • Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Psychology
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • Georgia licensed psychologist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
EXPERIENCE*
  • Four years of experience in direct assessment and care of pediatric patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting
  • Experience in conducting clinical supervision
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Experience in providing family therapy/counseling
  • Experience in writing and research
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*
  • Proficient in neuropsychological and/or psychological assessments and/or treatments of children, adolescents, and young adults
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Provides effective delivery of services (e.g., psychological assessments, consultation, and therapy) appropriate to the patient’s specific needs and severity level of disability or impairment.
  2. Integrates infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development, including referral to outside agencies as appropriate.
  3. Provides appropriate assessment and treatment, including modifications for special population(s).
  4. Develops and successfully implements assessment standards and treatment plans that support established goals.
  5. Documents weekly/monthly treatment notes and assessment reports following established standards.
  6. Completes discharge and follows up according to departmental standards, including liaison services to patient’s local school systems to assist with school re-entry and consultation for individual education program development as appropriate.
  7. Demonstrates and practices family-centered care.
  8. Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
  9. Communicates relevant information at the patient/family level of  understanding.
  10. Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
  11. Includes family/caregiver participation in all phases of the patient’s program.
  12. Evaluates patient and family psychosocial needs and provides appropriate direction to the team to meet these needs.
  13. Maintains an emphasis on minimizing duplication and increasing efficiency.
  14. Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional growth and improvement, meeting required continuing education standards.
  15. Provides clinical supervision to fellows, interns, psychometrists, students, and other employees as assigned.
  16. Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
