Project Manager - Construction and Design

The project manager will be part of our Planning, Design, and Construction (PD&C) department and support projects related to the North Druid Hills Campus master plan and overall PD&C department. The project manager will coordinate and manage design and construction activities for campus projects. The project manager will also manage a wide variety of other key strategic initiatives, including the implementation of a project management technology solution and executive presentations for senior leadership.


  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field


  • No professional certifications required


  • 1 year of experience in coordinating small or departmental projects
  • 1 year of experience in a professional working environment


  • Minimum five (5) years of design and construction project management experience
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety codes, OSHA, and JCAHO regulations.
  • BS in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering
  • Experience managing site utility construction projects
  • Experience with project management technology solutions such as e-Builder and Projectmates
  • Experience implementing project management technology solutions and associated process workflows
  • Experience creating executive leadership presentations in PowerPoint

  1. Responsible for coordination and completion of assigned projects, including the work plan, priorities, project goals and assignment of project duties.

  2. Outlines the initial schedule milestones for assigned projects and manages progress of the project to allow completion and occupancy within committed time frames that meet system requirements.
  3. Prepares estimates to confirm projects align with committed and approved budgets prior to starting activities.  On a monthly basis, prepares monthly budget updates to track committed costs, forecast of costs to complete the project, and total projected cost at completion to ensure approved budget goals are met.  Notifies the appropriate Manager in the event of any discrepancies and/or potential budget overruns.
  4. Solicits, analyzes, and makes recommendations for the selection of design and construction related vendors, including architect, general contractor, and other project consultants. 
  5. Prepares contracts for all project vendors and coordinates the execution of the contracts.
  6. Reviews and approves all requests for changes on a project to ensure alignment with overall project scope and system goals.
  7. Implements and manages performance improvement processes and related activities.
  8. Maintains project level data and reporting information for use in long-term historical use.
  9. Conducts lessons learned sessions for each completed project and then facilitates training back to the department.
  10. Works collaboratively with internal and external resources to facilitate a successful design and construction project that minimizes impact to the end user.
  11. Makes routine project level decisions and consultants more experienced staff when appropriate for higher-level decision making.  Follows authority matrix for approvals.
  12. Assists in cross-training of the project managers and project coordinators.


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
