Pediatric Institute: Neurohospitalist

JOB SUMMARY

The Division of Pediatric Neurology with the Emory+Children's Pediatric Institute (Emory University School of Medicine + Children's Healthcare of Atlanta) is expanding to meet the needs of the growing pediatric community. Our Pediatric Neurology Division is hiring neurologists through Emory's pediatric faculty practice plan in the School of Medicine, the largest pediatric multispecialty practice in Georgia. Our pediatric neurology team consists of 22 neurologists, soon to become 25 who are all faculty members in the Department of Pediatrics at the Emory School of Medicine, and we are looking to expand our division even further. Emory Pediatric Neurology services are offered in collaboration with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, ranked as one of the best hospitals for children in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. The Pediatric Neurosciences Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is ranked 1st in the Southeast and 12th in the USA by USNWR and one of the largest in the country, handling more than 2,400 pediatric neurological inpatient cases and performing over 1,400 neurosurgeries each year.

Successful candidate will join one of the largest pediatric neurology division in the country. The Neurohospitalists will mostly support in patient neurology service including the ICU and ED consults with a focus on quality metrics, patient safety issues, managing length of stay, and reducing readmissions.  This role offers diverse exposure across multiple medical and surgical specialties, and allows the Neurohospitalists to collaborate with the Neurointensivist and the Hospitalist teams. Some outpatient neurology care can be added if the candidate is interested.

This position offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and allows for excellent work/life balance with flexible hours and block scheduling. Opportunities to teach residents and medical students as well as participate in clinical effectiveness research are abundant.

This position is an academic position in PI, Emory University School of Medicine. The neurology faculty is involved with many clinical research studies ranging from clinical trials to basic and translational research. Faculty progress their career by collaborating with our adult neurology, Emory neurosciences program, Georgia Tech and Marcus autism center.

With the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)nearby, there are many opportunities for collaborations on national and international projects as well.

EDUCATION
  • Graduate of an accredited, four-year medical school.
  • Graduate of an accredited, post-graduate residency program in Pediatrics.
  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta professional staff.
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • Board certified (or board eligible) in Pediatric Neurology and licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • PALS or NRP certification.
EXPERIENCE*

Candidates must be board certified or eligible in pediatric neurology and must demonstrate excellent qualifications in education and clinical care. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and training, to serve as Assistant/Associate Professors of Pediatric neurology, to practice as Pediatric Neurohospitalists.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Provides patient care within the respective clinical area which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and Children’s policies and procedures.
  2. Participates in and incorporates Quality Improvement and research findings into practice.
  3. Provides and/or serves as a resource for patient/family and staff education.
  4. Provides an authenticated report of all physician services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner.
  5. Completes necessary documentation and ensures communication to facilitate patient care and appropriate reimbursement.
  6. Participates in meetings/activities as required to support operations of the clinical area.
  7. Participates in activities that enhance professional development, complete and maintain certification in BLS, PALS, or NALS and maintains any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the area assigned.
  8. Performs other responsibilities as required.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
