JOB SUMMARY

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is hiring a Data Analyst to join our team!  The Data Analyst will work with clinical/healthcare data regarding benchmarking.  The Data Analyst will receive training in clinical databases CHA and PHIS and will serve as the content and technical expert of Children’s Healthcare Association’s (CHA) Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Holds responsibility as Children’s PHIS Sponsor, ensuring proper data governance in compliance with PHIS research requirements. Accountable for the timely and accurate submission of Children’s data through the CHA Data Portal as well as data quality management. Provides PHIS education, consultation, and data interpretation for operational, quality, and research related Children’s projects. Uses PHIS’ Ad-hoc Reporting and Cohort Builder platforms to satisfy internal requests for data and customized reports. Partners with other internal analytic, reporting, and leadership teams to support innovative utilization of PHIS data throughout the system to further Children’s strategic & quality goals. Leverages system data for ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed for quality, operational, and financial projects.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Data Analysis/Management, Computer Science in healthcare field or equivalent experience required.  

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

• No professional certifications required

EXPERIENCE*

• Minimum of 5 years experience in data management/analysis/reporting and 2 years experience in a healthcare organization or a healthcare consulting practice performing analytical support
• Must obtain PHIS Ad-Hoc reporting, cohort builder, and sponsorship training within 6 months of hire
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Data Analysis/Management, Computer Science in healthcare field or equivalent experience 
  • Advanced MS Excel skills highly desired
  • Business Objects or SQL preferred but not required
  • Experience working in a healthcare system utilizing healthcare data
  • Experience gathering requirements from clinical staff
  • Familiarity with clinical terminology
  • Experience with any Clinical Benchmark Tools ex. PHIS, IBM ActionOI, IBM CareDiscovery, IBM Market Expert

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*

• Strong understanding of database technologies and concepts:  relational database modeling/design, data extraction and loading, database administration, data validation/quality control
• Proficiency in analytical, statistical, reporting and Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Excel, Business Objects, SQL Developer, SQL Management Studio)
• Strong communication and organizational skills 
• Demonstrated proficiency in working with users to define data and functional requirements

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

1.Serves as the content and technical expert of CHA’s PHIS through acquiring and maintaining proficiency in 
    a.PHIS’ data extraction platform, Business Objects
    b.Data dictionary and data elements’ operational definitions 
    c.Quality reports 
    d.Cohort builder 
    e.PHIS training and Webinars as available 
    f.PHIS standard reports

2.Manages requests for direct PHIS access through assuming PHIS sponsorship responsibilities 
    a.Intakes and triages all request for PHIS access 
    b.Assess requests for suitability – approving and denying access as appropriate based on Children’s data use agreement 
    c.Maintains records of all System data use agreements related to PHIS access 
    d.Keeps up to date access lists
    e.Educates requesters on data stewardship requirements including Children’s Institutional Review Board and PHIS External Release compliance

3.Responsible for the timely and accurate submission of System data through the CHA Data Portal
    a.Interfaces with BI Reporting Team to obtain timely submission files 
    b.Reviews data for quality and submits data through the CHA Data Portal 
    c.Is responsible for addressing all quality concerns through partnerships with IS&T, BI Reporting, and Coding as needed to ensure the most accurate data possible 

4.Provides PHIS education, consultation, and data interpretation for operational, quality, and research related System projects 
    a.Answers questions regarding PHIS data availability 
    b.Helps requesters operationalize their needed outcomes and explanatory data elements with available PHIS data 
    c.Advises requesters on the limitations of PHIS data and possible quality concerns 
    d.Serves as a liaison between PHIS requesters and other analytic roles such as reporting, advanced analytics, and performance analytics as needed
    e.Educates System staff, leaders, and researchers on the utility of PHIS data for various system initiatives 

5.Builds PHIS reports for operational, quality, and research related System projects 
    a.Proficiently leverages PHIS Business Objects and Cohort Builder platforms to build custom reports in alignment with requester’s analytic and benchmarking goals
    b.Performs data segmentation, trending, and quality reviews for extracted data 
    c.Leverages PHIS standard reports where applicable to meet requester needs

6.Partners with other internal analytic, reporting, and leadership teams to support innovative utilization and promotion of PHIS data 
    a.Serves as the content expert and super-user of any internally developed self-service platforms 
    b.Connects requesters with statistical and internal reporting needs and collaborates with them to complete prioritized projects  
    c.Maintains up-to-date familiarity with all PHIS products/data sourcing and seeks alignment of those resources with system initiatives to further Children’s strategic & quality goals
    d.Assists in national benchmarking for quality and other system initiatives

7.Leverages system data for ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed for quality, operational, and financial projects   

 

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
