JOB SUMMARY

Identifies nutritional needs of patients and assists in provision of nutrition care and education to patients and families in conjunction with clinical dietitian team, staff, and physicians.

 

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or related area or 2 years of experience in dietetics

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Screens patients for nutrition risk using appropriate criteria and refers nutrition risk patients to clinical nutritionist per policy.
    • Screens patients using hospital approved electronic medical record.
    • Screens patients within 24 hours of admission.
    • Refers patient at nutrition risk to appropriate clinical nutritionist.
    • Re-screens patients according to policy.
  2. Performs basic clinical functions, including calorie counts, nutrient analysis, and formula order verification/recipe entry.
    • Conducts calorie counts and nutrient analysis per policy.
    • Enters calorie count and nutrient analysis data into hospital approved electronic medical record.
    • Enters formula order recipe into hospital approved electronic medical record.
    • Verifies formula order recipe in electronic medical record.
    • May conduct other clinical functions under supervision of a clinical nutritionist.
  3. Handles ordering and inventory process to maintain adequate and safe supply of nutritional products and supplies.
    • Maintains inventory control and orders/stocks nutritional formulas, supplements, and supplies according to policy and procedures.
  4. Provides formula educations and diet instructions appropriate to age, medical condition, outcome goals, and needs of the patient.
  5. Participates in orientation and training of new clinical nutritionists, nutrition technicians, and formula technicians related to nutrition technician position responsibilities.
  6. Participates in ongoing department process improvement activities.
  7. Assists Formula Technician, including coverage for the position and responsibilities as needed.
  8. Performs other responsibilities as required.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
