Nursing Director, Neonatal Services

JOB SUMMARY

Work in partnership with the VP’s of Nursing and Hospital Operations, the System Medical Director of Neonatal Services and the Chief of Emory Neonatology, and the Medical Directors of the Children’s neonatal intensive care units to develop and operate a strategically focused quality department, which supports the system’s mission and values in an organized, innovative, and cost-effective manner. Accountable for clinical operations of neonatal, ECMO and Advanced Technologies services, quality improvement initiatives and nursing excellence across campuses and functions as a resource and role model for the neonatal leadership team.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Establish, coordinate, and maintains an organizational structure for Neonatology services, ECMO and Advanced Technologies services at all campuses which promotes the provision of quality healthcare.
  2. Partners with physician leadership to ensure integration and consistency of clinical operations and business processes, drive quality improvement initiatives, and develop innovative and strategic programs.
  3. Accountable for overall clinical operations management of neonatal services including:
    • Integration and coordination of care delivery
    • Ensuring adequate staffing to support clinical and business functions
    • Managing overall financial performance of the inpatient units
    • Assisting with budget development and financial analysis
    • Managing quality improvement activities in collaboration with the physicians and priorities to drive superior clinical outcomes.
    • Ensuring appropriate information systems and databases to support clinical operations
    • Creating and maintaining good physician relationships
    • Maintaining and striving to meet national metrics to be a top tier nationally recognized NICU which includes USNWR, Magnet, Pediatric Surgery Verification Program, and AAP NICU Verification Program.
  4. Serves as key contact point for operation issues related to neonatal and ECMO services, including regular interaction and communication with administrative and physician partners.
  5. Serves as role model for professional development through promotion of recruitment, retention, and continuing education of neonatal and ECMO staff.
  6. Promotes autonomy and accountability by fostering an environment for Shared Leadership and unit staff to collaborate in effective problem solving.
  7. Ensures development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services and meets compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.
  8. Develops strategies to promote exceptional customer service and patient and family education.

EXPERIENCE*

Minimum of five years management/administrative experience in a healthcare setting.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related health care field.

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Professional nursing certification required upon hire or within one year of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, or other healthcare related field.
  • Professional Nursing Certification in nursing leadership or neonatology (such as CCRN is highly preferred).
  • Leadership experience in neonatal intensive care, preferably level IV.
  • Fundamental knowledge of QI processes and implementation.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
 
Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
