Music Therapist-CIRU/PRN (as needed)

JOB SUMMARY

Provides innovative and creative music therapy for hospitalized pediatric patients with a wide variety of diagnoses. Organizes and provides music therapy services directly to the patients/clients in accordance with physicians' orders and team goals. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of  goal-oriented patient care and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association accredited college or university

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Georgia music therapy license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

EXPERIENCE*

  • Experience in volunteering or interning

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • 1 year of experience in music therapy 
  • Experience in a medical and pediatric population environment

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of interdisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of pediatric age-appropriate treatment and practice
  • Organizational and analytical skills
     

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Demonstrates the ability to provide accurate and timely assessments for patients at all levels of functioning which reflects the whole person. 
  2. Demonstrates the ability to create therapeutic goals as part of the interdisciplinary team appropriate for patients' medical, rehabilitative and/or palliative care.
  3. Demonstrates the ability to plan and deliver therapeutic treatment to ensure the most rapid patient recovery possible, utilizing a variety of evidenced-based music therapy techniques.
  4. Completes necessary documentation in a clear, concise, and timely manner in such a way that meets documentation standards and includes goals understandable to anyone who reads them.
  5. Comprehends and incorporates interdisciplinary goals and ideas into documentation.
  6. Documents family involvement in planning and implementation of treatment plans.
  7. Provides supervision to music therapy students, musician volunteers, and music community partners.
  8. Participates in programming duties of music therapy for area of care, including music therapy equipment acquisition/maintenance, Foundation Relations, music therapy research, and education for staff regarding benefits of music therapy.
  9. Conducts therapeutic intervention via music therapy.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
