Managing Director Private Investments

Work Schedule/Days:  Day / Monday - Friday 
Employment Type:  Full-Time


The Managing Director, Private Investments provides senior level oversight of the Privates investment portfolio, including private equity, private real assets, and venture capital.This leader will have the opportunity to build and oversee a team of 4-5 investment professionals dedicated to the Privates efforts, and reports to Children’s Chief Investment Officer.


  1. Provide oversight of the whole Privates portfolio under CIO guidance for the following functions:
    • Portfolio construction of the Privates portfolio strategies across all geographies, sectors, and structures for buyouts, growth capital, venture capital, real estate, and natural resources.
    • Formulates investment guidelines and portfolio level due diligence processes.
    • Formulates and recommends the Privates portfolio’s risk parameters.
    • Manages selection (i.e. sourcing, investment due diligence, preparation of recommendation, and execution).
    • Monitors existing manager relationships and exposures.
    • Reports on the portfolio’s status and direction through written materials and by directly interfacing with the Fund’s CIO, senior management, and Investment committee as appropriate.
    • Conducts Private investment portfolio analytics, liquidity projections, and performance reporting.
  2. Recruit, manage, train, and mentor junior investment mid- and junior-level personnel focused on the Privates portfolio.
  3. Work with the CIO on a total portfolio level and sub-portfolio level to report on the linkages of asset allocation, exposure measurement, performance attribution, liquidity monitoring, and statistical risk measurement (Risk Management).
  4. Work collaboratively and continuously engage all members of the Investment team to provide independent, rigorous insights on potential decisions across the Fund’s portfolio, including those not under direct responsibility.


At least ten (10) years of investment management experience.


Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, finance, accounting, business, economics, social sciences, or related field.


  • Demonstrated track record of sourcing and creating a portfolio of private investments.
  • Deep expertise in and industry knowledge of the manager landscapes for all of the below strategies:
    • Buyouts
    • Growth Capital
    • Venture Capital
    • Real Estate
    • Natural Resources
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication (written and spoken), presentation, and interpersonal skill, including a strong executive presence.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities.
  • Results orientation with ability to quickly assimilate data and communicate results.
  • Strong project management skills. Proven ability to develop project plans, provide regular updates to project sponsors, and adjust project direction as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex assignments with proven ability to assess competing priorities in a high energy, fast paced environment.
  • Practical in approach—has a natural orientation to getting things accomplished quickly in a high quality way and maximizes results with available resources.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading high performing teams. Strong orientation to provide situational leadership, tailoring leadership approach based on the needs of the individual. Transparent and able to incorporate feedback into personal performance.
  • History of building and fostering trusting, sustainable relationships with key stakeholders. Able to collaborate and partner with other subject matter experts and business leaders.
  • Can effectively cope with change and easily shift gears. Willing to shift between strategy, design, and delivery. A track record of doing whatever is needed to get the job accomplished.
  • Highly effective in ambiguous environment and able to produce maximum results with little direction and guidance.
  • Self-motivated and directed, possessing an ability to motivate others.
  • Strong business acumen, client-service, and results orientation.
  • High ethical and professional standards.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Project.


  • Master's degree in business administration (MBA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification.
  • Investment management experience at a $2 billion plus Endowment, Foundation, or Family Office.
  • Previous distinction of asset class head or lead managing a team focused on private investments
