Manager Compliance

JOB SUMMARY

Manages a portfolio of compliance projects and works collaboratively with leaders and frontline staff to implement compliance initiatives across Children’s system to help ensure we meet State and Federal laws and regulations. Areas of oversight include the System Compliance Focus Areas of Revenue Integrity, IT & Cybersecurity, Research, Physicians & APPs, and Subsidiary Oversight.  Leads and manages a team that contributes to the execution of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta's Compliance Program, including compliance investigations, work plans, and proactive compliance reviews. Collaborates with leaders across the organization to promote a compliance culture of accountability at every level of the organization.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, nursing or other health care related field
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • Certification in Compliance within one year of employment: Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), or Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO)
EXPERIENCE*
  • 5 years of experience in compliance/regulatory in a healthcare setting
  • 2 years of experience in management or supervision
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Master’s Degree
  • Pediatric experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in management and building effective relationships, conflict resolution, and problem solving
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and healthcare laws and regulations related to compliance
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects/tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across organizational boundaries with leaders team members
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and process improvement skills
  • Demonstrated independent judgment and action skills in order to facilitate needed change in practice
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to include one-on-one interactions and facilitating group discussions and investigations
  • Proficient in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Visio)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Leads and manages a team of Compliance Consultants assigned to various Children's locations or specialty areas and provides oversight and support to Compliance operations system-wide.
  2. Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading a team including: interviewing, hiring, training, developing/mentoring, directing work and processes, managing performance, recognizing, and rewarding employees.
  3. Responsible for management of the Compliance Hotline and other reported compliance matters.
  4. Collects, reviews, and evaluates compliance reports and events for the system. Serves as lead subject matter expert on Compliance. 
  5. Develops and manages compliance education, including required Annual Training, New Employee and Provider Training, New Manager training, and specialized training and education on various compliance topics throughout the year.
  6. Assists the Director, Compliance with activities related to change management, coding and provider based reviews, EMTALA and Opioid Oversight.
  7. Coordinates and manages workflow to ensure optimal delivery of services, delegating activities as necessary.
  8. Assists General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and Director, Compliance in high level investigations related to the Government and Whistleblowers.
  9. Manages and coordinates System Overpayment Policies and Procedures and self-disclosures to Government entities.
  10. Leads and coordinates RAC audit activity and other government requests for the system.
  11. Manages Conflict of Interest and Professional External Relationships Policies and Procedures, including activities related to the Board, Executive Management, and Physicians.
  12. In collaboration with Director, Compliance, conducts regular compliance reviews and/or audits of HR Exit Interview Surveys, Open Payments Data, PLRC activities, etc.
  13. Encourage ongoing skill development by providing opportunities for continued education.
  14. Communicates and informs team of decisions, changes, and other relevant information in a timely manner.
  15. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and maintains annual Compliance budget and/or spending policy.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
