MANAGER CLINICAL ENGINEERING

JOB SUMMARY

Directs the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta medical equipment management program at the assigned campus site as manager of the Department of Clinical Engineering in support of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s mission, vision, and values. Meets all regulatory requirements and maintains accurate records at the assigned campus location.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology or 5 years of supervisory experience
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

EXPERIENCE*
  • 8 years of  experience in biomedical or electrical instrumentation and test equipment
  • 3 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare medical equipment (asset) management setting dealing with multiple facilities

  • Proficient in various PC hardware/software applications and equipment database programs
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and follow through skills

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Manages the Clinical Engineering function.
  2. Provides advanced technical support to maximize equipment uptime, accuracy, performance, and cost efficiency.
  3. Manages all departmental initiatives with other campus clinical accuracy and maximum utilization of the medical equipment database program.
  4. Monitors, evaluates, and responds to present and future service needs, including new satellite and physician locations.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of and supports family-centered care philosophy.
  6. Oversees medical equipment management program in compliance with all regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, National Fire Protection Association, and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.
  7. Oversees the Clinical Engineering continuous quality improvement program.
  8. Works with director to oversee the equipment pre-purchase evaluation and capital equipment assessment program.
  9. Manages and coordinates the outside service program, including service contracts, vendors, and ISO servicing.
  10. Ensures accuracy and maximum utilization of the medical equipment database program.
  11. Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the medical equipment management program.
  12. Understands and complies with infection control, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration procedures and regulations.
  13. Provides recommendations for space, test equipment, and other resources needed by the department.
  14. Recommends to hospital authority or offsite sources for needed services not provided by the department or organization.
  15. Recommends sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care/services.
  16. Represents Clinical Engineering on hospital committees to report and give insight related to medical equipment technology.
  17. Manages the medical equipment education/training program to provide optimal support and use of equipment.
  18. Complies with all budgetary and fiscal goals.
  19. Pursues revenue-producing ideas and implements plans and programs to enhance the financial position of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
  20. Resolves issues with new/innovative ideas and design solutions.
  21. Provides maintenance, continual assessment, and improvement of the quality of services provided.
  22. Establishes and maintains lines of communication with hospital staff and administration to ensure optimal customer service.
  23. Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading a team including: interviewing, hiring, training, developing, directing work and processes, managing performance, recognizing, and rewarding employees.
  24. Mentor team members to encourage personal and professional growth.
  25. Encourage ongoing skill development by providing opportunities for continued education.

 

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
