Lead Instructional Designer - Revenue Cycle - Epic Certified

Provides leadership and oversight in the development and revision of new and existing instructor-led and self-paced classes geared specifically for the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) application and also other healthcare applications. Provides instructional design leadership to direct reports. Leads the development and execution of training project plans. Ensures training meets needs of stakeholders and reflects end user workflows. Maintains training environments for Epic EMR and/or other healthcare applications.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Training and Development, Education, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree


  • Epic certification or proficiency required in Grand Central/ADT, Cadence, or Resolute.


  • Three years experience in healthcare system implementations, operations, or delivery required
  • Three years experience in training design and development
  • Demonstrated experience providing instructional design and training implementation support to training project team members
  • Strong experience and understanding of instructional design, adult learning principles, and learning methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects from inception to completion and providing leadership support to other team members


  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Experience performing Epic MST build and maintenance strongly preferred


  • Demonstrated knowledge of graphical, word processing, presentation, and web development software required
  • Must be able to demonstrate well-developed and proven organizational, problem solving, analytical, and time management skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent writing and verbal skills for executive communications, proposals, and project reporting
  • Must be able to demonstrate articulate, impromptu speaking skills, meeting leadership skills, and conflict management skills
  • Must be able to function in a dynamic environment subject to impromptu changes in schedules and priorities and collaborate with multiple stakeholders


  1. Designs and conducts audience, task, and content-needs-analyses using structured tools.
  2. Develops a program structure with well-defined learning objectives aligned with business performance goals.
  3. Manages multiple projects simultaneously. Ensure deliverables are approved by the appropriate members of the project team and are completed in accordance with the training plan. Develops appropriate assessment and evaluation tools for training. Determines the appropriate training modality (time, delivery method) for each user in designated application as an advanced communicator to plan. 
  4. Collaborates with leaders, managers, and staff to provide learning solutions to address business needs.
  5. Collaborates with subject matter experts to develop educational content.
  6. Provides training project direction and lead support of instructional designers to accomplish the goals defined by the training project scope and objectives.
  7. Develops training materials, including facilitator support guides, end user guides, and other learning activities as needed for assigned training projects. Supports implementation of application end-user workflows and collaborates with SMEs and stakeholders through deliverables.
  8. Facilitates train-the-trainer classes, super-user classes, and/or end-user classes. Maintains training curriculum, training environment, and delivers ongoing education post go-live. Develops, supports, and maintains documentation and procedures as needed. 
  9. Reviews evaluation data to assess the effectiveness of training programs and implements recommendations for improvements.
  10. Maintains current knowledge of technology by attending appropriate continuing education training/seminars and reading related periodicals. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employees, patient, and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  11. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices. Complies with departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. Performs additional duties as required.
  12. Assists supervisor and/or manager with development of staff by being available to teammates, acting as a resource to help complete complicated/complex tasks, providing on the job training to the team, and seeking out opportunities to become actively involved in staff workflow and development.
  13. Provides supervisor and/or manager feedback on staff performance, educational needs, and workflow status.


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
