JOB SUMMARY

Maximizes collections on all insurance, bad debt, and/or self-pay balances and assists the Collections department with all functions and activities. Coordinates and performs all collection activities and accepts supervisory responsibility when necessary. Functions as a team lead.

EXPERIENCE*
  • 2 years of experience in the healthcare industry
  • Extensive experience in medical collections
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Some college
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*
  • Must have excellent telephone communication/customer service skills
  • Extensive knowledge of various types of business office functions, insurance plans, and claim types
  • Must be proficient in using computers with a high degree of accuracy
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Performs collections with guarantors, insurance companies, and third parties on all unpaid hospital claims.
  2. Takes appropriate action to resolve all insurance, bad debt, and/or self-pay unpaid balances.
  3. Performs insurance follow-up as necessary.
  4. Sends out collection and demand letters as appropriate.
  5. Documents all communication thoroughly in host system.
  6. Meets production and contact quotas.
  7. Trains all new collectors and trains/supports all staff in the use of software and proper collection procedures.
  8. Functions as supervisor when supervisor is unavailable.
  9. Assist Supervisor and/or Manager with development of staff by: being available to teammates, acting as a resource to help complete complicated/complex tasks, providing on the job training to team, and seeking out opportunities to become actively involved in staff workflow and development.
  10. Provide Supervisor and/or Manager feedback on staff performance, educational needs, and workflow status.

 

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
