Lead Cardiac Sonographer - Fetal Cardiology - Egleston

JOB SUMMARY

Assists Manager in facilitation and management of the day-to-day operations of the department including supporting and ensuring that comprehensive patient care services are provided that support the integrity of the family system and patient care team.

EDUCATION


• 4-year college degree

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

• Registered in Pediatric and Fetal Cardiac Echocardiography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Congenital Cardiac Echocardiography by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire

EXPERIENCE*

• Minimum five years clinical related experience.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

• (BS/BA/BSN) preferred
• Minimum one to three years prior supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
• Three years imaging experience preferred.
 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*

• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Excellent communication skills.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

1. Performs cardiac sonographic procedures producing scans of highest diagnostic quality through evaluation and selection of proper machine settings and proper patient positioning to produce the optimum images for cardiologist interpretation while using an age-specific approach. While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate age specific guidelines.  This age population includes:
a. N = Neonate (less than 30 days)
b. I = Infant (30 days to 1 year)
c. EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years)
d. LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years)
e. A = Adolescent (13-17 years)
f. AD = Adult
2. Identifies cardiac anomalies as obtained through cardiac sonography.
3. Gathers patient history and information pertinent to exam to be performed in order to assist in the diagnosis and communicates this to the cardiologist.
4. Utilizes assigned Syngo PACS information system functions, ensuring functions are used properly and completely, and information is entered accurately.
5. Ensures accuracy of all patient documentation.
6. Ensures accuracy of billing for all procedures.
7. Manages all processes related to Fetal Echocardiogram patients and studies, including scheduling, insurance preauthorization, appropriateness and quality.
8. Collaborates with team members to provide an optimal patient experience before, during, and after the fetal cardiology appointment.
9. Performs and record all quality metrics required for ICAEL Fetal Echo accreditation and quality initiatives requested by the Medical Director and Manager.
10. Maintains database and metric information to have current information available on request.
11. Actively participates in professional development opportunities in fetal echocardiography, through means such as group-discussion sites, peer-groups, journals, and conference attendance.
12. Responsible for professional development for other fetal sonographers and cardiac fellows.
13. Collaborates with Fetal Cardiology Medical Director, Nurse Coordinator, and other team members to investigate and implement as appropriate new technologies and practices into the Fetal Cardiology practice.
14. Actively participates in research related to the field.
15. Guides staff in maintaining the budget as related to staff and material resources including staff scheduling, productivity and resource utilization.
16. Achieves administrative outcomes through effective teamwork and mentorship. Participates in the development and achievement of department goals.
17. Acts as a resource to escalating concerns of potential or actual conflict to seeking resolution and incorporating service recovery.
18. Executes implementation plans for system and unit changes. Work closely with Cardiac Imaging Research Core and Quality Program Manager for Cardiac Services.
19. Coaches others in clinical decision-making and problem solving. Evaluates work to improve the process of education within the unit and system.
20. Performs job duties of a Senior Cardiac Sonographer
21. Coordinates with unit leadership oversight of ongoing Accreditation readiness for Joint Commission and ICAEL. Supports compliance with the National Patient Safety Goals.
