JOB SUMMARY

Manages operational aspects of Ambulatory Care Network laboratory and x-ray departments to ensure continuous, timely, and quality service to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta customers.  Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science 

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent medical technologist

EXPERIENCE*

  • 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory
  • 2 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Manages overall operations of department in support of organizational and departmental vision.
  2. Leads/directs personnel in accomplishing organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
  3. Demonstrates efficient and effective use of time and knowledge in directing personnel and departmental activities.
  4. Uses comprehensive communication processes to gather and give information.
  5. Incorporates quality management principles in all aspects of departmental activities.
  6. Performs related responsibilities as required.
  7. Maintains all areas of responsibility in compliance at all times with all regulatory and accreditation and certification agencies.
  8. Ensures effective and efficient allocation of resources.
  9. Manages personnel by providing consistent, constructive, and positive feedback.
  10. Focuses time and attention on key retention activities, e.g., enhanced hiring, identification and action plans for retention risks factors, coaching and development, team building, and communications.
  11. Works collaboratively with point-of-care providers to offer advisement and support infrastructure for shared decision making at unit and system level.
  12. Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading a team including: interviewing, hiring, training, developing, directing work and processes, managing performance, recognizing, and rewarding employees.
  13. Mentor team members to encourage personal and professional growth.
  14. Encourage ongoing skill development by providing opportunities for continued education.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
