Work Schedule/Days:  Must be flexible to both shifts M-F 2p-10:30p and Four days a week with rotating weekends / 10 hr shifts - 1p-11:30a.

JOB SUMMARY

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is hiring a Laboratory Assistant to join our team on a full-time basis!  The Laboratory Assistant assists clinical laboratory personnel in performance of responsibilities and works effectively with others to meet patient needs. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing team member duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Performs duties appropriate for Laboratory Assistant.
    1. Properly handles and processes specimens according to written procedures.
    2. Accurately prepares send-out requisitions and samples for referral testing
    3. Enter orders and receives all specimens in Laboratory Information System (LIS)
    4. Performs quality assurance by monitoring pending logs, OL monitor for timed and STAT specimens, HRP and the LIS error logs. Utilizes shift to shift communication log. Document orders errors and specimen integrity issues.
    5. Performs other duties as required by the department.
    6. Provide assistance with the management of stocking and inventorying supplies.
  2. Maintains professional skills and competency to do assigned tasks.
  3. Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
  4. Uses critical thinking principles in making decisions that lead to desired outcomes.
  5. Actively promotes a Lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of Lean principals and processes. Using an awareness of how the work performed is valued by the customer, perform duties, make decisions, take actions and continually strive to improve work processes.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
