Instrument Coordinator - Scottish Rite

Provides critical support in the sourcing, purchasing, tracking and provisioning of surgical instruments.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Sterile Processing Certification or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) 

4 years of experience in surgical services area with relevant sterile processing and instrument maintenance experience

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a hospital setting
  • Experience in sourcing and purchase of surgical instruments
  • Good computer skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of surgical instruments
  1. Researches instrument requests for replacements and provides substitution suggestions, and completes value analysis submissions for new instruments.
  2. Coordinates vendor visits and education.
  3. Maintains accurate files and data on all instruments purchased.
  4. Orders, receives, and coordinates all instruments, including loaner trays and consigned items, including updating of instrument tracking software.
  5. Works with surgeons, service line coordinators, and technologists to assess inventory instrument needs and proactively orders frequently needed replacement instruments to have on hand.
  6. Assembles accurate and complete surgical trays.
  7. Inputs instrument and tray products into instrument tracking system.
  8. Contributes to opportunity for improvement identification and process improvement within the Sterile Processing department.

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
