Hospital Design & Construction Senior Project Director

The Hospital Design & Construction Senior Project Director will ensure the new North Druid Hills hospital construction project is effective, efficient, safe, and in compliance with all regulatory agencies, policies, and procedures. This role will manage relationships with, and provide day-to-day oversight to multiple third-party construction and design organizations who have been engaged to provide project management support for our new hospital build.


The Hospital Design & Construction Senior Project Director reports to the VP, Planning Design and Construction, and will be a key member of the Master Plan Guiding Team which provides oversight for the design and construction of our new hospital.


This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development and construction of a facility that will serve millions of patients and their families, and will transform pediatric healthcare across the southeastern region of the United States.


  • Lead, administer, and is accountable for the delivery and performance of the North Druid Hills Hospital planning, design, and construction, including:
    • Strategic planning, space planning, detailed functional and space programming;
    • All phases of architectural/engineering design, certificate of need, construction documents preparation, cost estimating, financial analysis, master plan development, construction, close-out, and facility transitioning;
    • Construction, scheduling, budgeting, quality assurance, and safety program oversight; and
    • Building activation and transition to full occupancy.
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain a customer service philosophy incorporating the mission, vision, and values of Children’s family-centered care.
  • Provide strategic leadership by evaluating current systems and developing and implementing standards and benchmarking for a large-scale planning, design, and construction program.
  • Develop and administer budgets, schedules, and capital projects for the North Druid Hills hospital capital construction program and ensures fiscal accountability and cost effective services with long-term operating costs in mind.
  • Responsible for developing, negotiating, executing, administering, and archiving all contracts, contract documents, specifications, and legal agreements for the North Druid Hills hospital.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA and JCAHO and other regulatory and code requirements.
  • Incorporate lean principles in all new construction and/or renovation projects prior to the design phase.
  • Responsible for third-party resources’ selection, management, and performance.
  • Holds position on the Master Plan Guiding Team in tandem with System executive leadership to support the successful implementation of the overall master plan program.


  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in large hospital or health care facilities construction and/or project management operations on projects in excess of $100 million.


  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, building construction, architecture, or related engineering (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)


  • Extensive knowledge of hospital building codes, safety codes, OSHA and JCAHO rules and regulations, and the Certificate of Need process
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting, purchasing, and hospital operations procedures on large-scale construction projects
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems crossing functional boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets and other financial skills on large scale healthcare development and construction projects
  • High level of proficiency in the use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Preferred proficiency in E-Builder or similar project management software
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively and build trusted, sustainable relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully confront,creatively manage, and quickly resolve conflict.

  • American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) HCC or CHC certifications
