Pediatric Institute: Epileptologist

JOB SUMMARY

The Division of Pediatric Neurology, Department of Pediatrics, with the Emory+Children's Pediatric Institute (Emory University School of Medicine + Children's Healthcare of Atlanta) is looking for a Pediatric Neurologist with special expertise in epilepsy/neurophysiology to join an academic/clinical team at an Assistant/Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will become an active member of the pediatric neurology clinical care team; contributing to the area of Epilepsy and neurophysiology and developing expertise as a clinical researcher. Epileptologists participate in the teaching of Neurology Residents and Epilepsy Fellows as well as staffing a 12 bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, Fast Access Neurology clinics and reading LTVM/EEG studies. Children’s has several epilepsy sub specialty clinical programs in Ketogenic diet, genetic epilepsy, Infantile Spasms/epileptic encephalopathy, psychogenic non epileptic events (PNEE) and Epilepsy Surgery. The successful candidate can be part of the any existing programs or can develop his/her own niche. 

The Pediatric Neurosciences Program is part of the Brain Health Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and ranked 1st in the Southeast and 12th in the USA by U.S. News & World Report.  It is one of the largest programs in the country, handling more than 2,400 pediatric neurological inpatient cases and performing over 1,400 neurosurgeries each year.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Board Eligible/Board certified
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia
  • Current DEA registration
  • BLS certification is required. PALS certification

EXPERIENCE*

  • No minimum experience required

  • Experience in respective clinical area

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Provides patient care within the respective clinical area which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and Children’s policies and procedures.
  2. Participates in and incorporates Quality Improvement and research findings into practice.
  3. Provides and/or serves as a resource for patient/family and staff education.
  4. Provides an authenticated report of all physician services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner.
  5. Completes necessary documentation and ensures communication to facilitate patent care and appropriate reimbursement.
  6. Participates in meetings/activities as required to support operations of the clinical area.
  7. Participates in activities that enhance professional development, complete and maintain certification in BLS, PALS, or NALS (by 12/31/01) and maintains any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the area assigned.
  8. Performs other responsibilities as required.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
