The Director, General Patient Care will provide direct operational and financial leadership and accountability for the daily execution of business strategy for Patient Care Services activities for the assigned campus, ensuring the highest level of general patient care for patients, families, and employees. The Director functions as a resource person and role model for the Patient Care Services team and proactively supports the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services, and promotes a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The Director, General Patient Care reports to the VP, Nursing and Hospital Operations.


  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing


  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Professional nursing certification required upon hire or within one year of hire


  • Five or more years of health care experience with three years experience in a departmental management capacity
  • Previous experience with multi-departmental management


  • Masters in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Management or other related healthcare field
  • Pediatric experience


  • Collaborates with medical staff, service lines, and all levels of hospital personnel to assure high quality, cost effective patient care for areas of responsibility in the facility.
  • Assumes accountability for the development and management of the departments' budgets within the established fiscal guidelines and facilitates the monthly analysis of budget performance for areas of responsibility in the facility.
  • Participates in the development, planning, marketing, implementation and evaluation of new programs and services in the facility.
  • Provides leadership to enable unit based leaders to promote key retention activities.
  • Organizes, directs and participates in compilation and fiscal analysis of data/statistics/dollars to support strategic planning service line initiatives and operational decision making for areas of responsibility in the facility.
  • Directs the clinical and/or technical components and outcomes of functional areas.
  • Develops strategies to promote customer satisfaction and serve as an opportunity to create positive outcomes.
  • Oversees departmental performance improvement plan which promotes the highest quality of care.
  • Works collaboratively with leadership team and point-of-service providers to serve as advisors and support the infrastructure for shared decision making at the unit and system level.
  • Accountable for driving effective and safe admission, transfer and discharge process for division and hospital, ensuring efficient patient flow and outcomes through collaboration with physicians, other departments, system leadership, and staff. Removes barriers and identifies patterns for improvement.

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
