Director, Compliance

JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Compliance is responsible for leading our compliance strategy and efforts, including but not limited to compliance investigations, system wide compliance education, Physician Practice/Sibley Heart Center Compliance Program, Research Compliance, and Compliance Auditing and Monitoring. This leader is accountable for a portfolio of projects across the Children’s system to help ensure we meet State and Federal laws and regulations. They collaborate with leaders across Children’s to promote a compliance culture of accountability at every level of the organization.The Director, Compliance oversees and team of five compliance professionals, and reports to Children’s Chief Compliance Officer.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Accountable for continued development and implementation of the Children’s Compliance Program and Initiatives, consistent with the seven elements of an effective compliance program. 
  2. Leads system wide Compliance initiatives in collaboration with Chief Compliance Officer. Effectively communicates project progress, completions and outcomes to appropriate leaders.
  3. Ensures timely investigation and analysis of compliance matters, communicates findings and action plans to Chief Compliance Officer, General Counsel and Leadership, and creates system accountability for action items. 
  4. Accountable for system wide Compliance Learning Strategy and Education Program.
  5. Accountable for development of Compliance Audit Work plan to ensure policies are being administered and adhered to consistently across Children’s service lines and supporting departments.
  6. Maintains annual operations budget and/or spending policy.
  7. Manages day to day operations of assigned areas, including Compliance Staff.
  8. Participates in system-wide oversight committees. 

EXPERIENCE*

At least ten (10) years of compliance or regulatory experience in a healthcare setting, and at least five (5) years leading a function or team of compliance professionals. 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, finance, healthcare adminiostration, nursing, or related healthcare field.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication (written and spoken), building effective relationships, resolving conflict, strategic evaluation and planning, financial analysis, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
  • Strong project management skills. Proven ability to develop project plans, provide regular updates to project sponsors, and adjust project direction as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex assignments with proven ability to assess competing priorities in a high energy, fast paced environment.
  • Practical in approach—has a natural orientation to getting things accomplished quickly in a high quality way and maximizes results with available resources.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading high performing teams and developing future leaders and high performers. Strong orientation to provide situational leadership, tailoring leadership approach based on the needs of the individual. Transparent and able to incorporate feedback into personal performance.
  • History of building and fostering trusting, sustainable relationships with key stakeholders. Able to collaborate and partner with other subject matter experts and business leaders.
  • Can effectively cope with change and easily shift gears. Willing to shift between strategy, design, and delivery. A track record of doing whatever is needed to get the job accomplished.
  • Highly effective in an ambiguous environment and able to produce maximum results with little direction and guidance.
  • Self-motivated and directed, possessing an ability to motivate others.
  • Strong business acumen, client-service, and results orientation.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and/or Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO) is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Master’s degree in busienss or a healthcare field.
  • Experience in healthcare compliance or related field.
  • Prior experience in a pediatric hospital setting.
