The Director, Benefits is responsible for the design, communication, compliance, and delivery of the employee benefits and work/life programs. This leader reports to Children's VP, Wellness and Total Rewards, and leads our work life, benefits administration, HR call center, and employee health teams.


  • Partner with HR and senior leadership to develop and drive total benefits design and strategy that support Children’s people strategy.
  • Identify creative ways to offer competitive benefits to employees while managing the economic changes in the market impacting programs.
  • Formulate pricing strategies and budget projections to develop plans that effectively meet short and long-term objectives to support our strategy.
  • Partner with the HR leadership team and Internal Communications to develop programs and deliver employee communications to impact participation and engagement.
  • Lead the annual benefit plan design, review and preparation for Board approval.
  • Manage the annual open enrollment process and align with wellness fairs to ensure a full package experience for employees.
  • Oversee the execution of all work life and employee recognition program activities. Continue to evolve the program to support the needs of Children’s workforce and our system objectives.
  • Manage HR call center with efficiency and service excellence.
  • Ensure team is staffed with top talent. Coach and inspire team to deliver employee care and services at the same level we deliver to our patients.
  • Manage vendor, benefit provider and consultant relationships ensuring service levels are high. Evaluate need for changes to decrease cost or increase service or features.
  • Analyze current workflow and processes for benefit administration and recommend redesign for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Lead all project planning efforts required to execute work/life programs and events.
  • Measure and report on program outcomes and demonstrate ROI.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and government requirements of various employees benefit programs; including preparation and completion of required plan documents, Form 5500 and summary Annual Reports.
  • Develop and monitor operating budgets.


  • Eight or more years leading the development of a complex, integrated and strategic benefits program in a corporate environment. Working knowledge of talent management systems and work/life programs preferred.
  • Excellent business acumen, strong strategic planning, financial, numerical and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, implement, market, measure and evaluate benefits and work/life programs, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated history of working as a team member in a cross functional business environment and the ability to form relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish the appropriate priorities and work with a sense of urgency.
  • A strong attention to detail and accuracy with a superior work ethic.
  • Outstanding people management and development skills. Ability to inspire and be “present” with the team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and project management skills are a must.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field is required. CEBS or CPB certification is preferred.
