Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has an immediate opening for a Clinical Pathologist.  This newly created position will serve to assist the Director of Clinical Pathology with administration of laboratories in this large pediatric healthcare system.  The Clinical Pathologist will join a group of sixteen faculty members, seven of whom are existing Clinical Pathologists and PhD laboratory scientists.  The department is known for outstanding pediatric clinical and anatomic pathology.  Successful candidates should have technical excellence and good interpersonal skills, allowing for productive interaction with technical staff, other department faculty, and caregivers.  An opportunity to rotate in hematopathology is also available, should the candidate have appropriate board certification or eligibility in hematopathology.


  • Doctor of Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine
  • Successful completion of post-graduate pathology residency training program


  • Board certified or eligible in Clinical Pathology
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Georgia


  • Expertise in Clinical Pathology required; Hematopathology experience preferred


  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills and aptitude for conflict resolution, problem-solving, staff development and time management
  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff

  1. Provides clinical services as needed in the area of anatomic or clinical pathology.
  2. Directs referral of specimens to appropriate labs for ancillary studies as required.
  3. Maintains regulatory standards and performs duties in accordance with CLIA and other agencies. As appropriate, executes on duties delegated by the chief of pathology.
  4. Serves as consultant on outside specimens as required.
  5. Holds conferences to support Children’s medical staff.
  6. Teaches residents and fellows.
  7. Assists in resolving issues in the lab.
  8. Participates in the call schedule to provide 24 hour coverage of clinical and/or anatomic pathology services.
  9. Supports an environment in the department of pathology that facilitates retention, recruitment and the professional growth of all staff.
  10. Collaborates with Children’s in customer service initiatives.
  11. Collaborates with Children’s to achieve the highest possible quality of care.
  12. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
  13. Assists in monitoring quality indicators including reports to the Physician Practice Council as needed.


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
