Provides education  and supervision to the Clinical Pastoral Residents and Interns who are part of the Chaplaincy Program in compliance with the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education standards. Provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and employees to address needs in coping with the impact of illness, injury, or traumatic events. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

  • Master’s degree in divinity from an accredited graduate school of theology or equivalent
  • Ordination or recognition as pastor in chosen denomination
  • Certified as CPE Educator by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Three years of ministry experience
  • One year of experience in healthcare/pediatric setting
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Experience in grief counseling
  1. Supervises and coordinates the pastoral education training and educational process related to the delivery of healthcare for the residents and interns of the CPE program.
  2. Assists the CPE Program Supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the CPE Center office, including program evaluation, budget, and student records.
  3. Demonstrates expert pastoral knowledge by providing direct pastoral care.
  4. Works with the interdisciplinary team to provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, students, and staff of varying faith traditions.
  5. Provides education to identified audiences related to spiritual needs throughout the life span.
  6. Assists manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
