JOB SUMMARY

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Heart Center (Children’s Heart Center), in collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine, is recruiting a cardiac intensivist at the assistant or associate professor level. The candidate would join our team of 11 cardiac intensivists to staff the cardiac intensive care unit. The candidate will join the division of pediatric cardiology of Emory University School of Medicine, with more than 50 faculty members. 

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is the largest pediatric referral center in the Southeast, with 638 pediatric beds, and 1,400 pediatric general and specialist healthcare providers.  The pediatric cardiac program is one of the largest in the United States, with in excess of 800 cardiac surgeries performed each year. The dedicated Cardiac ICU is currently a 32-bed unit. The Cardiac ICU has over 1000 annual admissions and is complemented by a cardiac acute care unit with an additional 35 beds. The division of pediatric cardiology provides surgical and inpatient cardiac care for most of the children in the state of Georgia, with a catchment population of approximately 10 million.  The heart transplant program, one of the busiest in the nation, has performed over 350 pediatric heart transplants to date, and is an important component of the ICU that includes a busy heart failure and VAD service.

EDUCATION

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Medical Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited school of medicine
  • Successful completion of a post graduate fellowship program in pediatric cardiology, or pediatric critical care with additional training completed in pediatric cardiac intensive care, or dual Cardiology/Critical Care training. 
  • Eligible for an appointment as an Assistant or an Associate Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine.
  • Must be eligible to possess a valid controlled Substance Registration Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of Children’s professional staff.
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • Board certified or Board certified within five (5) years of the completion of residency or fellowship training
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia
  • Current DEA registration
  • Demonstrates the following skills in accomplishing job duties and responsibilities:
  • BLS / PALS certification is required
EXPERIENCE*
  • A strong record as a highly respected pediatric cardiac intensivist/trainee.
  • At least 5 years of experience at a large academic center.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Experience in respective clinical area

  • Outstanding skills as a cardiac intensivist combined with a high-level reputation as a clinician amongst his/her peers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Provides patient care within the respective clinical area which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and Children’s policies and procedures.
  2. Participates in and incorporates Quality Improvement and research findings into practice.
  3. Provides and/or serves as a resource for patient/family and staff education.
  4. Provides an authenticated report of all physician services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner.
  5. Completes necessary documentation and ensures communication to facilitate patent care and appropriate reimbursement.
  6. Participates in meetings/activities as required to support operations of the clinical area.
  7. Participates in activities that enhance professional development, complete and maintain certification in BLS and PALS and maintains any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the area assigned.
  8. Performs other responsibilities as required.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
