Come and join CHOA’s Heart Center Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) team. We are one of the busiest congenital pediatric heart surgery programs in the country that is rapidly growing and we need additional team members to help support our growth. Now is a great time to join the CVOR team, we are a dedicated CVOR team that performs over 900+ cases a year. The CVOR team is dedicated to professional growth for all of our team members. This includes cross training to scrub positions, career ladders, certification reimbursement, abstract/poster/presentation development to attend national conferences!

We are willing to train experienced OR team members! If you have experience in transplant, large abdominal cases, general, or vascular cases we would love to connect with you.


Assists in providing competent cardiac surgical care to patients and families whose healthcare needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and rapidly changing. Demonstrates technical, organizational, and team skills, and acts as clinical resource. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from recognized surgical technologist program or 5 years of equivalent experience


  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment


• Two  years of experience as a surgical technician


• One year of experience as a pediatric cardiovascular surgical technician
• Experience in a cardiovascular operating room
• Certified Surgical Technician Certification (CST)


  • Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills


1. Assists in ongoing process of healthcare delivery to patients and parents, incorporating age-related and developmental-specific requirements.
2. Provides technical skills assisting cardiovascular surgeon or staff and operating surgical equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
3. Participates in Cardiovascular Surgical Tech Call to meet department needs, complying with required response time.
4. Maintains knowledge of current equipment and supplies.
5. Utilizes effective communication skills in providing care to patients and families.
6. Assists in collaborative practice with healthcare team.
7. Demonstrates cost effectiveness and efficiency with regard to time management and supply use.
8. Participates in orientation of students, staff members, and other health professionals.
9. Performs ongoing department-specific tasks as assigned.
10. Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including:

  • N = Neonate (less than 30 days),
  • I = Infant (30 days to 1 year),
  • EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years),
  • LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years),
  • AD = Adult, and
  • ALL = all ages.

11. Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.
12. Supports Joint Commission readiness.


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
