Access Supervisor - Patient Access System - Support Center

JOB SUMMARY

Supervises staff performing revenue cycle activities for pre-registration, registration, charge capture, point-of-service payments, insurance verification, financial counseling, and quality monitoring for a 24/7 department. Analyzes revenue-related information to identify trends, and takes action to maintain or improve revenue performance. Plans and coordinates facility operations, maintaining cohesiveness of the department. Collaborates with other departmental leaders to improve department processes. Works collaboratively with other members of team to provide quality service to proactively support efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • No professional certifications required
EXPERIENCE*
  • Four years of experience in healthcare, including one year in a supervisory or lead role
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR), Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), or CFC certification
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES*
  • Must have a flexible schedule in order to work different shifts as needed
  • Demonstrated arithmetic and word mathematical problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating
  • May require travel within Metro Atlanta area as needed
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
  1. Directs registration functions in 24/7 department.
  2. Creates schedule for a 24-hour shift, seven days a week.
  3. May be called upon to work or be on-call for any shift necessary in a 24/7 department.
  4. Supervises staff performing revenue cycle activities, ensuring daily adherence to policies regarding scheduling, pre-registration, registration, charge capture, point of service payments, insurance verification, financial counseling, and quality monitoring.
  5. Fills in as Patient Access Registration Coordinator, Lead Registration Coordinator, Insurance Verifier, Lead Insurance Verifier, Financial Counselor, or Lead Financial Counselor if necessary or upon absences.
  6. Plans and coordinates daily facility operations to ensure building functionality as required.
  7. Coordinates activities and collaborates with other department leaders, improving department processes as required by site manager, educator, and/or director.
  8. Interfaces and coordinates activities related to Human Resources, Finance, Patient Accounts, Information Systems & Technology, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of services.
  9. Analyzes revenue-related information, identifies trends, and takes action to maintain or improve revenue performance.
  10. Provides superior customer service duties by interacting with internal and external customers (e.g., patients, parents, coworkers) in a professional and courteous manner.
  11. Manages reports, work queues, and dashboards to provide key metrics to leadership. 
  12. Facilitates staff communication through scheduled meetings, associate surveys, and active participation in hospital and departmental events.
  13. Supports Director, Patient Access and Manager, Patient Access in implementing and achieving Revenue Cycle goals and initiatives.
  14. Works to stimulate teamwork and a positive attitude among staff members.
  15. Maintains appropriate records and statistics for management reporting.
  16. Coordinates emergency disaster plan with regard to registration functions.
  17. Manages the day-to-day operations of the staff, including but not limited to: work assignments, task management, time tracking/management, and on-the-job training.
  18. Takes an active role in coaching and mentoring the team to ensure continued employee growth and success, both on the team and at the broader CHOA organization.
  19. Assists manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.

 

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
