What is the Children's Pediatric Nurse Residency Program?
Our Pediatric Nurse Residency Program is a 12-month program for new graduate nurses as they transition from nursing school into their professional nursing career. The program includes System-level and specialty-specific classes, simulations and hands-on training at the bedside. Our goal is to help you enhance your skills and put you on track to achieve your career goals.

How can I apply to the Children’s Pediatric Nurse Residency Program?
To streamline your application process, apply to the Nurse Residency Program role specific to your graduation date. 
  • The application for May graduates opens in December.
  • The application for summer graduates (July/August) opens in April.
  • The application for December graduates opens in August.
The application window for each cohort closes once we have reached the maximum number of applications, so apply early.

You’ll be exposed to a variety of clinical areas and patients during and after your residency. We offer access to more than 60 specialties and manage more than 1.2 million patient visits annually.

Because of the size of our System, you’ll have greater opportunities to hone your practice and find the area that suits you best after your residency. After your residency, you may work in one of our three hospitals—Arthur M. Blank Hospital, Hughes Spalding Hospital or Scottish Rite Hospital—as well as the Center for Advanced Pediatrics, Urgent Care Centers and neighborhood locations.

We offer three nurse residency cohorts throughout the year.
  • May graduates typically begin in July or August.
  • Summer graduates (July/August) start in October or November.
  • December graduates start in February or March.
Exact start dates for each cohort vary based on the unit you are selected to join.

Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as the application for each cohort opens. Positions are limited, so the earlier you apply, the better.

Yes, nurse resident positions are paid positions. Compensation will vary based on prior paid healthcare experience.

Yes. Nurse resident positions are full-time positions (36 hours per week).

Our cohort sizes vary and are based on the needs of our three hospitals. We typically hire 50 to 150 new graduate nurses for each nurse residency cohort.

Yes. You must obtain either an Active Georgia RN license or Multi-State RN license through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. License numbers must be submitted before your start date.

To be eligible for the Nurse Residency Program, you should:
  • Have completed an accredited nursing program; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred.
  • Be a graduate nurse with no prior experience or <1 year of current nursing experience.
  • Have an active Georgia RN license or Multi-State RN license through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Have an active American Heart Association CPR/BLS-Healthcare Provider card.

We hire new graduate nurses participating in our Nurse Residency Program at Arthur M. Blank Hospital, Hughes Spalding and Scottish Rite.

We have residency tracks in a variety of specialties, including:

  • Cardiac Acute Care Unit
  • Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
  • Critical care (Pediatric ICU, Cardiac ICU, Neonatal ICU, Technology Dependent ICU)
  • Emergency Services
  • General Pediatrics or Med/Surg
  • Inpatient Hematology/Oncology
  • Transplant Stepdown Unit
You will have an opportunity to specify your unit(s) of interest on the Nurse Residency Program application.

  1. Apply to the nurse residency role specific to your graduation date. (Please note: Due to the volume of applications and limited spots available, we will be unable to contact all applicants.)
  2. If selected to move forward, you will complete an initial screening, answering questions via video.
  3. If selected to advance again, you will have a phone call with a Children's nurse recruiter.
  4. If you are chosen to interview with a hiring manager, you will meet with them on-site and you'll also have the opportunity to shadow in the department.
